Me a riff and told me that's what he wanted to hear. Bob Weir later said, "China Cat Sunflower is just about the only song where Jerry ever taught China Cat is one of the Dead's catchiest pieces, with an unstoppable riff, intertwining guitars, and memorable soaring solos - it might make even a non-deadhead tap their toes. When Garcia sang the words, they could sound like a string of nonsense syllables.but the words weren't the focus of the song, they were more a backdrop to the music. The lyrics are quite consciously psychedelic: It seems stronger than their last studio attempt in June '66, but sadly they don't seem to have finished it.Īfter that, the song vanished from their setlists for nearly three years.Ĭhina Cat Sunflower was one of the first lyrics Robert Hunter wrote for the Dead - apparently he mailed it to them as a poem in mid-'67, and they later set it to music. They apparently considered Rider for their first album, since we have an instrumental track of it from the album sessions in January '67. The 9/16 version marks a change - it's longer with more verses and two solos, and it's the first time the "I wish I was a headlight" verse appears (sung by all). They sometimes sing the verse, "I'd drink muddy water, sleep in a hollow log, than stay here in Frisco, be treated like a dog" - which would be dropped in later years. Garcia has a cool, poppy guitar solo, and he keeps soloing under the vocals in the second half, which is a nice touch. Phil takes the singing lead with Weir harmonizing the music is more upbeat and bouncy than later Riders, taken at a faster speed with Garcia's constant rhythm-guitar chirps and Weir's Byrds-style chords the harmonies are straight folk. There are lots of live Riders from '66, mostly identical to each other - they turned this old blues into a happy pop song that fits in well with the mid-'60s folk/rock sound. (studio - these early takes were also released on the "Birth of the Dead" CD) A somewhat better version was recorded at the Scorpio Records session in June '66 but one of the Dead's trademarks was already becoming apparent - their songs were better at live shows. ![]() I Know You Rider was one of the first songs the Dead recorded, at the Autumn Records session in November '65 - not a standout version, but it shows they already had the arrangement in place, and it wouldn't significantly change during the next year. ![]() There's an excellent discussion of the origins of Rider here: ![]() ![]() The lyrics the Dead chose are very evocative in their compressed blues style, being somehow foreboding and hopeful at the same time. Some of the alternate lyrics of other versions are here: In the late '50s it started circulating as a folk song and was covered by a number of people in the early '60s Garcia picked up the song from the folk scene and brought it to the Dead - possibly they had even been doing it in the Mother McCree's jugband. Our story begins with I Know You Rider, which first emerged as a series of floating blues verses in the '30s. (Note that this is not a guide to best-of versions in fact, I won't even be mentioning the best versions.) The first China>Rider we have was played on 9/30/69, 40 years ago - these two songs have a tangled history in the early years of the Dead, so I'll offer a brief introduction to how their performances evolved up to '74. 2/11/2023 0 Comments Skype for os x mavericksWhatsApp is free and offers simple, secure, reliable messaging and calling, available on phones all over the world. Just d/led the JavaScriptOSA zip from the appscript project page on SourceForge, and the bundled JABDemo.app still works. Needless to say, Sal Soghoian completely ignored my expert recommendation for this killer feature which could be implemented in a day, choosing instead to dump JXA and its few hapless users down the same black hole of nothingness as all his other product failures. While it only translates outgoing Apple events, not native AS code, 99% of the time JS users already know how to write general JS code, and it’s the application-specific references and commands they’re struggling to form.īack when appscript was still a thing I hacked together a quick-n-dirty AppleScript-command-to-Python/Ruby/ObjC translator app which appscript users absolutely adored, plus it greatly reduced the number of “How do I…” support questions because, more often than not, users already had a working example in AppleScript which they could just run through the translator to get the answer for themselves. Funny enough, back when the Mac Automation devs were still getting JXA ready to throw away, one of the things I told Sal Soghoian to do was to add automatic AS-to-JS syntax translation to Script Editor’s Log pane. 2/11/2023 0 Comments Late night host writer on simpsons![]() He was also interviewed in The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special – In 3-D! Buckle up and enjoy the ride - it's going to be a long read. Out of the 5 items, I’ve used each of them in various glamour outfits from time to time. I do like this outfit very much, and am quite happy that I purchased it. I finished the look with the White Cherry Blossom Corsage and Moonfire Sandals, both available through crafting or on the Market Board. It adds a pretty eastern touch to the Endless Summer Top from the Endless Summer Outfit (another Moonfire Faire set, also available retrospectively from the good ol’ Mog Station). However, as a little lady, I kinda like that effect.Īnd we finally get to see the skirt! At this length, I actually found it really cute as a swimsuit cover-up. I will admit that this changes the vibes of the outfit a little to make it more cute than sultry. The only change I made was to swap out the Eastern Socialite Skirt for the Faire Kohakama from the Eastern Faire-goer’s Attire (Moonfire Faire event, also available on Mog Station). This is my personal go-to when I decide that I want to glamour myself as a little Eastern Socialite Lady. However, the Eastern Socialite set works so well as a cohesive whole that I tend to make only small modifications in my daily glamour. I tend to not wear outfits as a full set because I like adding some personal touches. However, I really like this as a pair of ankle boots with a well defined heel and an interesting floral applique. If Lalafells have tiny hands, we have even tinier feet. I actually like the boots a lot, and I think I’ve used it the most in other outfits. ![]() Personally though, I don’t enjoy it when I show that much skin as a Lalafell. Now, I get how this would be desirable if you were going for a sultry vibe on a tall race. The slit in the skirt is pretty much as high as the slit in the dress, which means that it doesn’t provide much coverage at all. If anything, the thing that bothers me the most is how the skirt functions within the full outfit. It’s nice to have, but it’s more of an afterthought for me. However, Lalafells have little hands, so I don’t really find much value in this particular pair. I do enjoy the little button details that are quite unique to this model. However, it’s so stylized that I haven’t really been using it much outside of the outfit as a whole. I do like the fact that it doesn’t change the appearance of hairstyles. The hat, in particular, is a very interesting take on a bowler hat speckled with red cherry blossoms and a falling sprig of white blooms. I’m not as excited by the other four pieces, but I can appreciate how they’re well designed. I love the little details speckled throughout the dress that give it enough interest without appearing overly styled or caricature-like. I would say that this is the most overtly Chinese dress we have in the game, and it’s nice that it’s pretty authentic. However, it’s very classy and pretty unique. As a Lalafell with a child-like physique, the silhouette is definitely not as sexy as it would be on the taller races. So how does it work on a Lalafell?įirst off, my favourite item out of the five is the dress. Plus, those stats were pretty insignificant to begin with. It’s a non-issue to me, since all my glamour pieces go straight into the glamour dresser. Unlike some of the Mog Station outfits before it, there are no set bonuses that provide stats for characters under level 30. The Eastern Socialite’s Outfit Set (females only) comprises of: 2/10/2023 0 Comments Alicia keys parents![]() She is the only child of Teresa Augello, who was a Genesis Ali Dean.
